Michigan’s Economy into the New Millennium - Book Chapter
Published MSU Press has published a book Michigan’s Economy into the New Millennium featuring the status and potential of several Michigan industries. One of the chapters is dedicated to tourism. Dr. Donald F. Holecek, the author of the tourism chapter, describes many aspects of this complex industry, as well as opportunities and challenges it faces now and in the near future. One of his biggest concerns is tourism industry’s negative balance of trade. The deficit has been growing over the years and now is approaching $3 billion. This matter needs attention from everyone involved in or concerned about Michigan’s tourism industry. The chapter offers several suggestions about what can and should be done to close the deficit, but the industry itself may come up with many more excellent solutions.
