The Mackinac Bridge Authority
will host a grand opening of its new eight-acre Bridge View Park on
Wednesday, June 12.
"The site of the new park has been a popular place for people to visit
and enjoy the bridge," said Henry A. Lotoszinski, executive secretary of
the Mackinac Bridge Authority. "These improvements will provide a
beautiful setting for the public to experience the spectacular view of
the span along with the straits area."
The observation building will have five window sections facing the
Straits of Mackinac and two entry doors. The back portion of the
building will have two restrooms and a small office area.
"The construction of this wonderful park has long been a dream of the
Mackinac Bridge Authority," said Authority Chairman Murray D. Wikol.
"The newly landscaped park will enhance the gateway to Michigan's Upper
Peninsula."
Construction of the Bridge View Park began in April 2001 and is located
west of the toll plaza in Moran Township. The new park includes paved
access roads, a walking path, picnic areas, trees and landscaped areas
containing flowers and shrubs.
The public is welcome to attend beginning at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
The authority also has announced that another Mackinac Bridge token is
in circulation. This coin has the same front as the first gold token,
except for the updated year. The back of the newest token has a "Bridge
View Park" theme. Commemorative packs will be available at the park for
$5 each on dedication day. |
